Class tips
To help ensure each class runs smoothly, please:
- arrive on time and take advantage of the warm-up exercises
- let the teacher know if you have an injury or medical condition that may affect your dancing – it may be better for you to walk rather than do formal dance steps
- direct any questions to the teacher. You’re probably not the only one who doesn’t understand an instruction! Raising your hand, in the time-honoured fashion, is the best way to gain the teacher’s attention!
- refrain from chatting while the teacher is talking so that other dancers are able to concentrate on the teacher’s instructions
- when walking through a dance in class, try not to walk ahead of the teacher’s instructions. Another set may be watching you for cues.
- let the teacher give feedback to other dancers. If you feel help is necessary during a dance, do so unobtrusively, using eye contact, brief verbal cues or subtle hand signals.
- enjoy the dances - if you don’t end up in the right place at the right time, it’s not the end of the world!
Don’t forget to thank your teacher at the end of the class – they are all volunteers and without them there would be no class.
